Enhancing the digital literacy of female government servants should be a priority in this decade, Uva Province Commissioner of Local Government, Mr. Mangala Wijenayake said today (08) addressing a workshop organized by the Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) to enhance the digital literacy of grassroots female politicians.


This is a part of CaFFE’s Janani Project.
Mr. Wijenayake said that female politicians face many challenges and they need to have a good understanding of how the cyberspace works for their safety.
Digitization has made the lives of female politicians easy as it provides a number of tools that allows them to reach out to a large number of people. However, one needs to have a proper understanding of the cyberspace, to navigate it safely. He added that enhancing the digital literacy of female government servants should be a priority in this decade.
Mr. Wijenayake was also one of the chief guests of the event. The others were Assistant Elections Commissioner for Badulla, Mr. K. Kandeepan and Chief Administration Officer, Mr. Sudharshana Mudungoda. A number of female politicians and civil society activists attended the workshop.
Keynote speech was given by senior elections monitor Manjula Gajanayake.
CaFFE Executive Director, Mr. Ahmed Manas Makeen, spoke of the importance of digital literacy for grassroots political leaders.
