The Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) conducted a three-day Training of Trainers program to build the capacity of local trainers, enabling them to facilitate future training sessions on Media Literacy, Digital Hygiene, and Digital Security. This event was conducted with the support of the Carter Center and marks a significant step in empowering women politicians to combat disinformation and safeguard their public trust.
As part of this initiative, CaFFE embarked on a project to train 120 women politicians, equipping them with critical thinking skills to address various forms of media disinformation that could compromise their credibility and public standing. Digital Hygiene and Digital Security were integral components of this program, ensuring that women politicians are prepared to deal with all forms of technology-based harassment and malicious digital threats.
The training covered crucial aspects of Media Literacy, including tackling gender disinformation, understanding media ownership and its influence on free and fair elections, and distinguishing between journalism, news content, and manipulated information. The Digital Hygiene segment was designed to help women politicians secure their digital devices and provide them with the knowledge necessary to mitigate digital harassment.
The curriculum on Digital Hygiene and Digital Safety was developed by Dr. Gabrielle, a consultant from the Carter Center, while the Media Literacy curriculum was designed by Dr. M. C. Rasmin, a consultant from CaFFE. This comprehensive training program is a vital step towards ensuring that women politicians are well-equipped to navigate the digital landscape confidently and effectively.
